Mentorship Program

Investigative Reporters and Editors has a rich legacy of mentorship and collaboration. While we host several conferences and training events, you don't have to wait for one to get mentoring!

IRE is proud to partner with Journalism Mentors to help connect mentors and mentees virtually. For students and early-career journalists, this is an opportunity to connect with IRE members, and get advice on investigative journalism or navigating the media industry. For mentors, this is a way to give back and share the wisdom you've gained over the years.

Find a mentor

Mentors listed on IRE's page of the JournalismMentors.com website are current IRE members who have volunteered to help others with skills such as requesting public records, getting started with data and programming in your reporting, video storytelling, editing, story ideas and other watchdog reporting skills. Those seeking mentorship are not required to be IRE members, and mentorship sessions are free to all.

Become a mentor

Through the JournalismMentors.com website, mentors set up office hours when they are available, and mentees can choose a time to set up a chat through an automated system.
